Serena Williams needed only two sets, to dispatch Garbine Muguruza 6-4 6-4 in the women’s final of this year’s Wimbledon Open.

Muguruza, who was playing in her first ever Grand Slam final, gave the world number one a tough game, but Serena’s strength and skill was too much for her to deal with.

Having won her sixth Wimbledon title and her 21st Grand Slam, Serena will go into next month’s US Open, attempting to achieve the first calender-year Grand Slam since 1988. She will also be seeking to equal Steff Graf’s record, which stands at 22 Grand Slam titles.

This victory means the American is holding all four major tennis titles for the second time ever – the Serena Slam.
